Most people find astrology difficult to understand on their own, let alone transit astrology. So it usually comes through someone else's lens: a reading, a horoscope column or a social media post telling them what a transit means. It's difficult to understand through other sources because no one knows better than what is happening in your life at that moment. No one else knows your circumstances the way you do. Only you know best. A transit to your natal Moon will land differently depending on where you are in life, what relationships you are navigating and what emotional patterns you carry. No external interpretation can account for all of that. You can.
This site exists to give you the tools and knowledge to understand planetary transits for yourself. The free calculator shows you exactly which transits are active in your chart right now. The interpretation pages explain what each transit traditionally represents, what themes it tends to activate, what areas of life it touches and what reflective questions it raises which can best reflect what you are facing. With that information and your own awareness of your circumstances, you are better equipped to understand what you are encountering for yourself.
Every Planet, Every Aspect, Every Natal Point
The site provides detailed educational interpretations for transits from all ten astrological planets: the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. Each planet transits your natal chart differently. The slower outer planets (Jupiter through Pluto) create longer transits that shape major life chapters, sometimes lasting months or years. The faster inner planets (Sun through Mars) move quickly and create shorter, more immediate influences that colour your daily and weekly experience.
For each transiting planet, we cover its interaction with every natal chart point across all five major aspect types: conjunction, opposition, square, trine and sextile. This produces over a thousand individual transit interpretation pages, each one written to explain the specific combination of planet, natal point and aspect angle in depth.
Every interpretation page includes the symbolism of both the transiting planet and the natal point it is contacting, how the aspect angle shapes the nature of the interaction, what themes and life areas the transit tends to bring into focus and reflective questions designed to help you connect the transit's themes to your own situation. The reflective questions are a deliberate part of the design. Rather than telling you what a transit means for you, they prompt you to consider how it might be showing up in your circumstances based on what you already know about your own life.
Swiss Ephemeris Precision
The transit calculator at the heart of this site is powered by the Swiss Ephemeris, widely regarded as one of the most accurate planetary ephemeris engines available. Swiss Ephemeris is not only used in professional astrology but is also used in astronomical applications where high-precision planetary positions are required for astronomers. It computes positions accurate to within fractions of a degree, far beyond what transit astrology requires, but this is the level of precision we use at Astro Transit Academy.
When you enter your birth details and a transit date, the calculator computes exact planetary positions for both your natal chart and the transit date, then identifies which planets are forming aspects to your natal points within standard orbs. For the five major aspects (conjunction, opposition, square, trine and sextile), the calculator uses established orb conventions appropriate to each planet's speed and influence. The underlying ephemeris engine can handle dates spanning roughly 3,000 years into the past and 3,000 years into the future.
The calculator supports multiple house systems including Placidus (the most widely used in Western astrology), Whole Sign, Equal and Koch. Accurate birth time is important for reliable results, particularly for Ascendant and Midheaven calculations and we recommend using your exact recorded birth time for the most precise output.
Going Deeper When You Want To
The free calculator covers all major aspects and delivers their interpretations across all outer and inner planets. It provides the information you need to understand how these planetary placements work within established astrological frameworks.
For deeper analysis, we offer reports that delve further with higher revelatory information that can show even more significant relevance in your life. These reports incorporate house placements, showing not just which planets are forming aspects but which area of your life each transit is activating based on your birth chart's house structure. They also detect minor aspects (the quincunx, semi-sextile and sesquisquare) at 1-degree precision. Minor aspects operate at a subtler, more internal level than major ones. Where a square or opposition might describe situations you can clearly see unfolding around you, minor aspects point to what is shifting beneath the surface: a growing awareness you have not yet put into words or an old pattern quietly loosening its grip. The reports are written to complement the educational material on the site, giving you a more complete picture while still encouraging you to interpret the themes through your own awareness of your circumstances.
Learning to Read Transits for Yourself
Beyond the calculator and interpretation pages, the site includes a library of educational guides designed to build your understanding of transit astrology from the ground up. Our interpretations draw on established Western astrological tradition and present what each transit traditionally represents within that framework. We aim to be as accurate and honest as possible in how we describe planetary symbolism, aspect dynamics and transit cycles.
