Your Natal Chart Points: What Transits Activate

Your birth chart contains 19 sensitive points. Each one represents a different facet of your psychology and life experience. When an outer planet forms an aspect to one of these points, it activates that specific area. Here is what each point represents and what it means when transits touch it.

What Natal Points Are

A natal chart is a map of the sky at the exact moment of your birth. It records where every planet was, which signs they occupied and what angles they formed to each other. This map never changes. It is fixed at the instant you were born and remains the same for your entire life.

The positions recorded in your natal chart are called natal points. Each one represents a specific function within your psychological makeup. The Sun represents your core identity. The Moon represents your emotional nature. Mercury represents how you think and communicate. When a slow-moving outer planet forms an aspect to one of these natal points, it activates the themes of that point in a way that typically corresponds with noticeable shifts in the related area of your life.

The transit calculator on this site tracks 19 natal points grouped into three categories: the ten celestial bodies (planets plus Chiron), the four angles (which require an accurate birth time) and five additional sensitive points. Together, these 19 points cover the full range of psychological and life domains that transit astrology addresses.

Personal Planets

The Inner Planets in Your Natal Chart

The personal planets move quickly through the zodiac and represent the most individual parts of your psychology. Because they occupy different signs and degrees for every person, transits to these points produce experiences that feel deeply personal rather than generational.

Sun
Identity, Purpose, Vitality

Your natal Sun represents the core of who you are: your sense of identity, your central purpose and your basic vitality. Transits to the natal Sun tend to activate themes related to self-expression, personal direction and the fundamental question of what you are here to do. When a major outer planet transits your Sun, the experience often feels like a direct encounter with your own evolving identity. These are the transits where you feel most personally affected.

Moon
Emotions, Instincts, Inner Life

Your natal Moon represents your emotional nature, your instinctive responses and the private inner world that only you fully inhabit. Transits to the Moon activate themes related to emotional security, nurturing, family, home life and the unconscious patterns that shape how you respond to the world. Moon transits often feel more internal than Sun transits. They affect how you feel rather than what you do.

Mercury
Thought, Communication, Learning

Your natal Mercury represents how you think, learn, communicate and process information. Transits to Mercury activate themes related to mental patterns, conversations, writing, education, decision-making and the frameworks through which you understand the world. A major transit to Mercury can change how you think about things at a fundamental level, not just what you think about but the actual cognitive style you use.

Your natal Mars represents how you assert yourself, pursue desires, take action and handle conflict. Transits to Mars activate themes related to energy levels, motivation, anger, ambition, physical drive and the courage to go after what you want. Social and Outer Planets

The Slower Planets in Your Natal Chart

Jupiter and Saturn serve as a bridge between the personal planets and the transpersonal outer planets. Their natal positions describe your relationship to growth, ambition and social structures. The three outermost planets (Uranus, Neptune and Pluto) move so slowly that entire generations share the same sign placement. Transits to these natal points tend to activate generational or transpersonal themes as they play out in your individual life.

Jupiter
Growth, Beliefs, Expansion

Natal Jupiter represents your capacity for growth, your philosophical outlook, your relationship to abundance and your belief system. Transits to natal Jupiter activate themes related to personal expansion, faith, optimism and the areas of life where you seek meaning. Because Jupiter is already expansive by nature, transits to it can amplify these themes powerfully, for better or for worse.

The Four Angles

The Angles of Your Chart

The four angles are among the most sensitive points in any chart. They change by one degree approximately every four minutes, which means an accurate birth time is essential for reliable angle positions. If your birth time is uncertain, transits to the angles may not be accurate.

Ascendant (Rising Sign)
Self-Presentation, Physical Body, First Impressions

The Ascendant is the degree of the zodiac that was rising over the eastern horizon at the moment of your birth. It represents how you present yourself to the world, your physical appearance and vitality and the lens through which others first perceive you. Transits to the Ascendant are among the most externally visible because they affect how you show up in the world. Changes in appearance, personal style, physical health and public persona often correlate with major transits to this point.

Midheaven (MC)
Career, Public Role, Life Direction

The Midheaven is the highest point of the chart, representing your public role, career direction, reputation and the legacy you are building. Transits to the Midheaven often coincide with significant career developments: promotions, career changes, public recognition or periods of reassessing your professional direction. This is one of the most important points for understanding your relationship to achievement and public life.

Descendant (DC)
Partnerships, Others, Projection

The Descendant sits directly opposite the Ascendant and represents your approach to one-on-one relationships, what you seek in a partner and the qualities you tend to project onto others. Transits to the Descendant activate themes related to partnerships of all kinds, including romantic relationships, business partnerships and significant one-on-one dynamics. These transits often bring relationship changes to the foreground.

The IC is the lowest point of the chart, representing your roots, home life, family of origin, emotional foundation and the most private layer of your inner world. Transits to the IC tend to activate themes related to where you live, your relationship to family, your sense of belonging and the psychological foundations on which everything else in your life rests. Major IC transits sometimes coincide with physical moves, family changes or deep inner restructuring.

Additional Points in Your Chart

Beyond the planets and angles, your natal chart contains several additional sensitive points that carry distinct thematic significance. These points respond to transits in meaningful ways and add nuance to the full transit picture.

Chiron
Core Wound, Healing, Teaching

Chiron represents your deepest wound and your greatest potential for healing. Often called the "wounded healer," Chiron's natal position shows where you carry a sensitivity that never fully goes away but can become a source of wisdom and compassion for others. Transits to Chiron reactivate these themes, often bringing old pain to the surface for a deeper round of healing. These transits can be tender, but they frequently coincide with breakthroughs in self-understanding.

Past Patterns, Comfort Zone, Release

Transits to the South Node can bring encounters with the past, a pull toward familiar but potentially outgrown behaviors or opportunities to release patterns that no longer serve you.

Black Moon Lilith
Instinct, Shadow, Raw Authenticity

Black Moon Lilith is a calculated point representing the lunar apogee. It is associated with the raw, instinctive and untamed aspects of the psyche, the parts of yourself that resist domestication. Transits to Lilith can activate themes related to suppressed desires, boundary-pushing authenticity and the tension between social expectations and primal selfhood.

Part of Fortune
Fulfillment, Flow, Natural Ease

The Part of Fortune is an Arabic lot calculated from the positions of the Sun, Moon and Ascendant. It represents the point where your identity, emotions and outward expression align most naturally, the area of life where things tend to flow with the least resistance. Transits to the Part of Fortune can activate periods of unusual ease, alignment or opportunities that seem to arrive without forcing.

How Multiple Transit Activations Interact

At any given time, multiple natal points in your chart are being activated by different outer planets. This creates a layered experience where several developmental themes are running simultaneously. A Pluto transit to your Moon might be deepening your emotional life while Jupiter's transit to your Midheaven opens new career possibilities. Saturn squaring your Venus might be testing a relationship while Neptune trines your Mercury and opens up your creative imagination.

The art of transit interpretation lies not in reading each transit in isolation but in seeing how they weave together. When several transits share a theme (multiple planets activating relationship points, for instance) that theme tends to become dominant in your experience. When transits pull in contradictory directions, the result is often a period of complexity and tension that demands you hold multiple truths at once.

Using the transit calculator to see all your active transits together gives you the full picture. The individual transit pages on this site help you understand each one in depth. The goal is to develop a sense of the overall developmental story your transits are telling right now.
